The territory

The ancient village of Rollo, located 147 meters above sea level, preserves – on the slopes of Cape Cervo – a 16th-century house-fort, built for sighting and defense against possible pirate attacks.

Near Rollo, the ancient priory of the Benedictine monks of St Martin was built, owned in the Middle Ages by the Abbey of Gallinara Island, but no trace remains of the religious building.

In 1500, Rollo was already fairly populated and its inhabitants were farmers, fishermen and coral fishermen, who went as far as the coasts of Corsica and Sardinia on the high seas. Evidence of this seafaring tradition can still be found in the ex-votos in the S.S. Trinità parish church, dating back to 1634.
